At least six members of a family, including two women and children, were killed on Sunday in the Sabirabad area of Karak district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, after gunmen opened indiscriminate fire following a domestic dispute.
The victims included a six-year-old boy and a three-month-old girl. Rescue 1122 teams quickly responded to the scene, transporting all bodies to the District Headquarters Hospital for postmortem examinations.
Police acted swiftly to apprehend the suspect. According to a spokesperson, District Police Officer Saud Khan directed the Sabirabad station house officer to respond immediately.
The suspect was arrested moments after the incident, and the weapon used in the crime was recovered. Authorities have indicated that the shooting was triggered by a domestic conflict within the family, which escalated into a deadly attack.
The attack has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting concerns over domestic disputes escalating into fatal violence. Local officials and law enforcement have urged families to seek mediation and legal recourse in conflicts rather than resorting to violence.
This incident comes shortly after another fatal shooting earlier this month in the Kandukhel area of Karak district, where a young man was killed, raising concerns over increasing violent incidents in the region. Authorities have promised heightened vigilance and increased patrolling to prevent similar tragedies.
The police and rescue teams continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the Karak shooting. District officials have called for the community to cooperate with authorities in the investigation and urged the public to remain calm.
The rapid response by law enforcement and medical teams underscores the commitment to swiftly addressing violent incidents while providing emergency support to affected families.
Authorities have stressed the importance of legal intervention and the prevention of firearm misuse, particularly in domestic settings, to avoid further tragedies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
