Pakistan and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral security and border management cooperation.
The agreement was reached during a high-level meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Acting US Ambassador Natalie Baker in Islamabad. Key officials, including the Minister of State for Interior, directors of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency (NCCIA), and the Federal Constabulary commandant, also attended.
The discussions focused on expanding collaboration in shared areas of interest, including counter-terrorism, cybercrime, and border security. Both sides highlighted the importance of modern technology and advanced software in preventing financial fraud, terror financing, and cross-border crimes.
Border Security and Modern Equipment
Naqvi and Baker agreed to equip Pakistanโs border security agencies, coastal guards, and other law enforcement institutions with modern US-supplied equipment. This initiative aims to strengthen operational capabilities and ensure effective monitoring of borders. The use of advanced technology is expected to enhance the identification of individuals involved in criminal activities abroad.
Training Programs and Capacity Building
The meeting also covered training programs for officers of the FIA, Federal Constabulary, and Cyber Crime Agency. Plans include the establishment of a Centre for Transformational Crime and an academy within FIA with US support. These institutions will focus on developing expertise in anti-terrorism, financial crime prevention, and law enforcement coordination.
Minister Naqvi welcomed US assistance in reorganizing the Federal Constabulary and strengthening FIA and NCCIA operations. He noted that activating the FIAโs Counter-Terrorism Wing with US support would make it Pakistanโs first federal wing with coordinated provincial operations.
Cybercrime and Financial Fraud Prevention
The Interior Minister emphasized NCCIAโs successful crackdown on illegal call centers nationwide and stressed the importance of advanced software to combat financial fraud and terror financing. He praised ongoing US collaboration and urged further expansion of joint efforts to protect Pakistanโs financial systems.
US Appreciation and Future Cooperation
The US delegation recognized Pakistanโs ongoing efforts to improve security cooperation and strengthen bilateral relations. Ambassador Baker highlighted the continuing collaboration between US agencies and Pakistanโs Interior Ministry and confirmed that joint initiatives would continue to enhance partnerships.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to a long-term strategy for border security, counter-terrorism, and law enforcement modernization. This partnership is expected to improve regional stability, promote effective governance, and ensure safer borders.
