The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced a temporary suspension of gas supply to industrial consumers and CNG stations. The shutdown will begin at 8:00 am on January 17 and will continue until 8:00 am on Monday. The decision comes as part of emergency measures to manage gas shortages during peak winter demand.
Company officials said the step was taken to reduce pressure on the gas transmission system. Moreover, the priority during this period will remain household consumers across affected regions.
Domestic Demand Surges During Winter
According to Sui Southern Gas, gas consumption rises sharply during the winter season. Colder temperatures increase household usage for cooking, heating, and other daily needs. As a result, gas pressure drops in several residential areas.
Officials explained that the system struggles to meet demand when domestic usage peaks. Therefore, authorities decided to temporarily divert supply away from industrial units and CNG stations. This move aims to stabilize pressure for homes facing low or no gas supply.
The company added that complaints from domestic consumers had increased in recent weeks. Many areas reported low pressure during morning and evening hours. Consequently, urgent action became necessary to avoid prolonged disruption in households.
Industries and CNG Stations Face Temporary Shutdown
Under the announcement, all industrial consumers and CNG stations connected to the Sui Southern network will remain without gas during the suspension period. However, officials stressed that the measure is short-term and will be reviewed regularly.
SSGC urged industries and CNG operators to cooperate fully. The company assured stakeholders that gas supply would be restored once system pressure improves. In addition, the utility said it is monitoring demand patterns closely to avoid further disruptions.
While the shutdown may affect production schedules and transport services, authorities said domestic needs must come first during the cold spell. The decision aligns with past winter policies where household supply is given top priority.
Citizens Asked to Use Gas Responsibly
Sui Southern Gas has also appealed to the public to use gas carefully. Citizens were advised to avoid unnecessary usage, especially during peak hours. Simple steps, such as efficient cooking practices, can help conserve gas and support smoother supply.
Officials emphasized that responsible consumption will allow more households to benefit from the available gas. At the same time, it will reduce pressure on the system and limit the need for extended shutdowns.
The company said it continues to explore long-term solutions to address seasonal shortages. These include system upgrades and better demand management strategies. Until then, temporary load management remains a key tool during winter months.
SSGC assured consumers that it remains committed to ensuring uninterrupted domestic supply as much as possible. Updates regarding restoration or further changes will be shared through official channels.
