KARACHI, January 15, 2026: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms in Karachi and several other districts of Sindh as a westerly weather system approaches the country, bringing widespread rain and snowfall over the next several days.
According to the Met Office, a shallow westerly wave is expected to enter the upper parts of Pakistan from January 16 and persist until January 19, before intensifying from January 20. The strengthened system is likely to affect most regions of the country from January 21 onwards.
Between January 16 (evening/night) and January 19, rain with wind and thunderstorms, along with light to moderate snowfall, is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and parts of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Light rain and snowfall are also forecast for Murree, the Galiyat, and nearby areas between January 18 and 20.
From January 20 to 23, widespread rain-wind and thunderstorm activity is predicted across Gilgit-Baltistan, AJK, Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad, the Potohar region, and several districts of Punjab and KP. During the same period, intermittent rain with strong winds is expected in parts of Balochistan on January 21 and 22.
The PMD has also forecast rain in Sindh on January 22 and 23, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Dadu, Jacobabad, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, Ghotki, and surrounding districts. Karachi is expected to experience rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunder.
The Met Office warned that heavy snowfall in mountainous areas from January 20 (night) to 23 could result in road closures, slippery conditions, and increased risks of landslides and avalanches. Tourists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and exercise caution.
Fog conditions are expected to ease in Punjab, KP, and upper Sindh during the wet spell, while a noticeable drop in daytime temperatures is likely nationwide..
