According to the adviser, Bangladesh formally raised security concerns through official correspondence before finalizing travel plans. In response, the ICC security team shared conditions that were described as alarming and impractical. These conditions, officials say, place Bangladesh in an impossible position ahead of a global event.
Two Conditions Spark Controversy
The ICC security note reportedly stated that risks would increase under two specific circumstances. First, the inclusion of star fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman in Bangladesh’s World Cup squad was identified as a trigger. Second, the movement of Bangladeshi supporters in public spaces while wearing national flags or team jerseys was also flagged.
Bangladesh’s sports adviser argued that these conditions undermine the spirit of international sport. Selecting the strongest squad and allowing fans to display national colors are considered fundamental rights. Therefore, he stated that complying with such demands makes normal participation unrealistic.

In addition to the two conditions, the security communication highlighted another concern. The risk level was expected to rise as Bangladesh’s national elections draw closer. Officials said this factor lies completely outside cricket’s control. As a result, they viewed it as further proof of instability surrounding the fixtures.
Bangladesh is scheduled to play three group matches in Kolkata and one in Mumbai. However, tensions escalated after Mustafizur Rahman was removed from an Indian domestic league squad. The decision reportedly followed deteriorating relations between the two countries.
