In anticipation of heavy snowfall in Murree this week, authorities have launched “Mission Safe Winter” to ensure the safety of tourists and residents.
The initiative combines digital monitoring with on-ground security measures to manage potential risks posed by extreme winter weather. Visitors have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during snowfall and follow safety protocols while in the area.
The district administration and police have placed the entire force in Murree on high alert from January 17 to 21. Additional personnel have been deployed to handle the possibility of heavy snow, while senior officers will remain on-site to oversee operations.
Sensitive roads and areas prone to landslides are being closely monitored through a real-time system linked with Safe City cameras, allowing authorities to respond quickly to any incidents.
Travel to and within Murree will be conducted under a modern monitoring and response system. Patrolling has been strengthened on steep roads and near landslide-prone zones to ensure smooth traffic and timely assistance for stranded travelers.
Tourists are advised to follow essential precautions, including keeping a window slightly open in case a vehicle becomes stuck, to prevent oxygen deficiency, and contacting emergency services at 15 immediately if assistance is needed.
The initiative aims to minimize risks associated with winter travel, including road accidents, vehicle stranding, and health emergencies due to cold exposure. Authorities have emphasized that compliance with safety advisories is crucial for ensuring both personal and public safety during this period.
“Mission Safe Winter” reflects a proactive approach to disaster management, combining advanced technology, personnel readiness, and public awareness.
Officials continue to coordinate with meteorological departments to provide timely updates on weather conditions, ensuring that Murree remains safe and accessible during the peak snowfall season.
