Rare and Life-Threatening Condition Shocks Kasur Village
A heartbreaking medical case has emerged from the village of Khara in Kasur, where a newborn baby was born with his heart outside his body. The condition, known medically as ectopia cordis, is extremely rare and life-threatening. It occurs when the heart develops outside the chest cavity instead of inside the rib cage.
According to doctors, the babyโs heart is beating normally despite being exposed. Medical experts say this condition requires immediate and highly specialized surgical intervention to give the child any chance of survival. Without surgery, the risk of infection and organ damage remains extremely high.
The birth has left the family and local community in shock. Residents say they have never witnessed such a case before. The baby was born in a basic healthcare setting and was quickly referred to Lahore due to the seriousness of his condition.
Lahore Hospital Sends Baby Home After Four Days
Soon after birth, the newborn was shifted to Lahore Childrenโs Hospital for emergency treatment. Doctors there conducted initial assessments and confirmed that the childโs heartbeat was stable. However, despite the seriousness of the condition, the hospital sent the baby back home after four days.
The reasons behind the hospitalโs decision remain unclear. No official explanation has been provided to the family regarding why treatment was not continued. This decision has raised concerns among health advocates and members of the public.
Medical professionals state that ectopia cordis usually requires a multi-stage surgical approach. It involves protecting the exposed heart, gradually placing it inside the chest, and repairing associated defects. Such procedures are complex and costly, but early intervention is critical.
The baby is currently at home in Kasur. His condition remains fragile. Doctors warn that any delay in treatment could prove fatal.
Parents Appeal to Punjab CM for Help
The babyโs father, Muhammad Din, is a daily wage earner who runs a small tea stall. He says he cannot afford the expensive surgery needed to save his sonโs life. According to medical estimates, the cost of treatment could run into millions of rupees.
Speaking to the media, Muhammad Din made an emotional appeal to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. He requested immediate government intervention to ensure proper treatment for his child.
โI only want my son to live,โ he said. โHis heart is beating. He deserves a chance. I cannot pay for such a costly operation on my own.โ
The family is urging the provincial government to facilitate treatment at a specialized cardiac center. They are also seeking financial assistance under government health programs.
Health experts stress that such rare cases require swift action and institutional support. They say government hospitals and welfare organizations must step in to prevent the loss of a young life.
As the appeal gains attention, many are hoping authorities will respond quickly. For now, the babyโs survival depends on urgent medical care and timely support from the state.
