Intelligence-Based Action Forces Notorious Criminal to Lay Down Arms
Punjab Police have achieved a significant breakthrough in their ongoing operation against riverine, locally known as katcha, criminals in Rahim Yar Khan. A highly wanted bandit carrying a bounty of Rs100 million has surrendered along with his close associates. Police confirmed the development on Wednesday, calling it a major success in restoring law and order.
According to a police spokesperson, the surrender followed an intelligence-based operation in the katcha area. Law enforcement agencies tightened the security cordon after receiving credible information about the suspectsโ movement. Strategic planning and sustained pressure left the criminals with no option but to surrender.
The main suspect has been identified as Mira Lathani. He laid down his arms along with accomplices Fida alias Rathore Lathani and Zulfi Lathani. Police said the suspects surrendered without resistance after realizing there was no escape route.
Hardened Criminals Involved in Murder and Kidnapping
Police officials described Mira Lathani as one of the most dangerous criminals operating in the riverine belt. He was carrying a head money of Rs100 million due to his involvement in multiple heinous crimes. Authorities said he and his associates were wanted in several cases of murder, kidnapping for ransom, and armed attacks.
The suspects are also accused of targeting police personnel during past operations. Their activities had created fear among local communities living near the riverine areas. Residents had repeatedly demanded strict action against criminal gangs controlling the region.
Police stated that the katcha areas pose serious challenges due to difficult terrain and limited access. Criminals often use these conditions to evade arrest. Despite these obstacles, Punjab Police continued intelligence-led operations to dismantle organized crime networks.
Punjab Police Vow to Continue Operations in Katcha Areas
Inspector General of Punjab Police praised the Rahim Yar Khan District Police Officer and his team for the successful operation. He termed the surrender a major step toward breaking the backbone of criminal groups operating in the riverine region. The IG said such successes strengthen public confidence in law enforcement.
The District Police Officer of Rahim Yar Khan reiterated the stateโs commitment to restoring peace in the katcha belt. He said the government aims to eliminate criminal hideouts and ensure safety for residents. He added that those who abandon crime and surrender weapons will be given an opportunity to return to a lawful life.
However, the DPO made it clear that intelligence-led and targeted operations will continue against remaining criminals. He warned that there would be zero tolerance for those who choose violence and lawlessness.
Punjab Police officials confirmed that additional resources will be deployed in the area. Surveillance and patrols will be increased to prevent criminal regrouping. The surrender of a Rs100 million bounty suspect sends a strong message that the writ of the state will be enforced at all costs.
