Speculation regarding an extension in winter holidays across Punjab has caused confusion among parents and students. The uncertainty grew as cold weather conditions continued in several parts of the province.
Reports circulating on social media suggested that the Punjab government was considering extending winter vacations. These claims linked the possible decision to harsh weather and safety concerns for students. As a result, many parents began seeking official clarification.
However, the provincial government has clearly denied any plan to extend winter holidays. Officials confirmed that no such proposal is under consideration at this time. Authorities urged the public to rely only on official notifications.
The confusion emerged alongside cold weather advisories issued by the National Disaster Management Authority. These warnings advised citizens to remain cautious during the ongoing cold spell. Consequently, concerns grew about early morning school timings and student safety.
Addressing the issue earlier this month, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat rejected reports of any holiday extension. He described the circulating claims as false and misleading. He also reaffirmed that all educational institutions will reopen as scheduled.
According to the minister, public and private schools and colleges across Punjab will resume classes on January 12, 2026. He urged parents and students not to follow unverified information shared online. He stressed that only official government announcements should be trusted.
Previously, the Punjab Education Department had announced winter vacations from December 22, 2025, to January 10, 2026. This schedule applied to all public and private educational institutions across the province.
Despite the official notification, some private schools reportedly reopened before the vacation period ended. In several cases, students were instructed through messaging applications to return to classes early. This action prompted complaints from parents.
In response, the District Education Authority initiated enforcement measures in Lahore. Officials sealed three private schools for violating the official winter vacation schedule. These institutions were located in Shahdara, Bedian Road, and Sabzazar.
Authorities also summoned the principals of the violating schools for questioning. Officials warned that strict action would continue against any institution defying government directives. Compliance with the announced schedule remains mandatory.
The education minister reiterated that no private school is permitted to reopen early. He added that immediate action will be taken against any violation. Concerned Chief Executive Officers have been instructed to enforce compliance.
The government has once again clarified that winter holidays will not be extended. Schools and colleges are expected to reopen on January 12 as planned. Officials continue to advise the public to ignore rumours and follow verified updates only.
