A tragic road accident in Punjabโs Chakwal district claimed at least five lives and left 27 people injured after a passenger bus plunged into a deep ravine near Dhok Pathan. The Karachi-bound bus was travelling from Islamabad when it reportedly lost control at a sharp bend, triggering one of the deadliest road incidents of the year in the region.
According to rescue officials, the accident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday near Talagang. The driver failed to navigate a dangerous curve, causing the vehicle to skid off the road and tumble into a gorge. As a result, passengers were violently thrown inside the bus, while several remained trapped in the wreckage.
Rescue 1122 teams reached the site shortly after receiving emergency calls and immediately launched a large-scale rescue operation. Emergency responders carefully evacuated the injured and transported them to nearby hospitals for urgent medical treatment. Officials confirmed that seven women were among those injured, while several victims remain in critical condition.
Authorities stated that the death toll could rise, as some passengers suffered severe internal injuries. Medical teams remain on high alert as treatment continues. Meanwhile, law enforcement officials have begun preliminary investigations to determine the exact cause of the crash.
Road safety experts continue to warn that bus accidents remain a persistent problem across Pakistan. Poor road infrastructure, speeding, sharp bends, and driver fatigue frequently combine to create fatal conditions on highways. Moreover, long-distance buses often travel overnight, increasing risks due to reduced visibility and driver exhaustion.
This tragedy follows a similar incident reported in December 2025, when a passenger bus overturned on the M-14 Motorway near Fateh Jang, killing at least 11 people. That crash also involved a loss of control at high speed, highlighting ongoing safety concerns across intercity transport routes.
Reacting to the Chakwal incident, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives. She offered condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured. The chief minister also directed local authorities to ensure the best possible medical care for survivors.
As families mourn their loved ones, questions continue to mount over road safety enforcement and accountability. Until stricter measures are implemented, such tragedies are likely to persist on Pakistanโs highways.
