A high-level Pakistani Senate delegation, led by Deputy Chairman Senator Syedaal Khan, will undertake an official visit to the United States from January 20 to 25, 2026. The visit marks a historic milestone in bilateral parliamentary relations.
The Senate Secretariat described the trip as the โbeginning of a new institutional chapter in Pakistan-US engagement.โ It comes amid a notable thaw in relations between the two countries throughout 2025, a year marked by high-level discussions and strategic recalibrations.
The visit is being organized under the Pakistan Policy Institute USA and will, for the first time, include the United StatesโPakistan Inter-Parliamentary Group. According to officials, the initiative reflects โa major achievement in strategic and non-traditional parliamentary diplomacy.โ
The delegation aims to promote democratic values, exchange best legislative practices, and enhance institutional cooperation beyond traditional executive-level diplomacy. Officials emphasized that the visit will focus on establishing a permanent mechanism for sustained inter-parliamentary dialogue between the US Congress and Pakistanโs Senate.
In addition, the program seeks to engage with the Pakistani-American community, presenting Pakistanโs parliamentary perspective on regional and global issues. It will also advance scientific, cultural, and policy-oriented cooperation between both nations.
No Pakistani parliamentary delegation has formally engaged at the Rayburn House Office Building under the auspices of the US Congress in the 77-year history of Pakistan-US relations. This visit will also include media engagements at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., and community and policy receptions in New Jersey.
Officials highlighted that the initiative will lay the foundation for regular parliamentary exchanges, enhanced legislative collaboration, and a sustainable institutional partnership anchored in mutual respect and democratic principles.
The delegation follows the successful visit of a US Congressional team to Pakistan in April 2025. That team, including Congressmen Jack Bergman, Tom Suozzi, and Jonathan Jackson, held productive meetings with senior Pakistani officials, including Field Marshal Asim Munir.
This upcoming visit signals Pakistanโs intent to expand its diplomatic engagement beyond executive channels and underscores the role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening bilateral ties.
