ISLAMABAD: A New Year gift awaits the people in Islamabad as the Shaheen Chowk Underpass opens for traffic on Wednesday.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the Shaheen Chowk Underpass today. He directed the concerned officials to open this underpass for traffic by December 31. It will resolve longstanding congestion in the area.
Inspection Highlights Project Completion
During his visit, Minister Naqvi inspected the finishing work on the underpass, observing ongoing carpeting and surface work. He also reviewed the landscaping and horticulture efforts around the project and instructed authorities to plant additional trees to enhance the areaโs aesthetic appeal and promote an environmentally friendly environment.
The minister emphasized that the timely completion of the underpass will permanently address traffic bottlenecks at Shaheen Chowk. He noted that once operational, the underpass will significantly improve traffic flow and reduce delays for daily commuters, providing much-needed relief in one of the cityโs busiest intersections.
Authorities Briefed on Progress
During the visit, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman provided a detailed briefing on the projectโs status, including the pace of work and the completion stages. Minister Naqvi underscored the importance of adhering to the set deadline and ensuring that all final touches, including landscaping and finishing, are completed efficiently.
Officials confirmed that final preparations are underway to meet the December 31 deadline. The project, once completed, is expected to streamline traffic movement, improve commuter experience, and contribute to the overall development and modernization of the area around Shaheen Chowk.
