KARACHI: Popular YouTuber Rajab Butt sustained injuries after a group of lawyers allegedly attacked him inside the Karachi City Court premises on Monday, triggering widespread outrage and renewed concerns over security arrangements in judicial complexes.
According to initial reports, Rajab Butt appeared before the court to seek interim bail in a case registered against him. However, as he entered the court premises, a group of lawyers confronted him. Soon after, the verbal exchange escalated into physical violence, creating panic inside the courthouse.
Violent Incident Sparks Security Concerns
Eyewitnesses said the attackers physically assaulted Rajab Butt, striking him repeatedly and causing injuries to his jaw and mouth. As a result, he suffered visible bleeding and appeared shaken following the incident. Court officials and on-duty police personnel immediately intervened and managed to disperse the group after a tense situation developed in the premises.
Meanwhile, the sudden outbreak of violence disrupted court proceedings and alarmed lawyers, litigants, and visitors present at the scene. Several witnesses questioned how such an attack occurred inside a high-security judicial facility, despite the presence of police and court staff.
Furthermore, the incident has intensified calls for stricter security measures at courts across Karachi. Legal observers stressed that violence within court premises undermines the rule of law and creates an unsafe environment for litigants and legal professionals alike.
Court Extends Interim Bail
Following the incident, the court extended Rajab Buttโs interim bail until January 13. Officials confirmed that authorities recorded statements from witnesses and initiated inquiries to identify those involved in the attack.
Meanwhile, social media users strongly condemned the assault, demanding immediate action against the perpetrators. Many also urged judicial authorities to ensure the safety of individuals appearing before courts, regardless of their public profile.
In addition, police sources said they were reviewing CCTV footage from the court premises to establish the sequence of events. They added that further legal action would follow once the investigation concludes.
The incident has once again highlighted serious gaps in courtroom security, prompting renewed debate on safeguarding public figures and ordinary citizens within Pakistanโs judicial institutions.
