Pakistan received its first spell of winter rain on Saturday night. The showers ended a dry period that lasted nearly two months. Temperatures dropped in several regions, bringing relief from dry and dusty weather conditions.
Rainfall Reported in Major Cities and Regions
Light rain was recorded in Islamabad and Rawalpindi late Saturday night. Showers also hit urban and plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. Talagang received noticeable rainfall. Parts of Balochistan, including Quetta, also saw rain. In Ziarat, the rain intensified cold conditions.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department confirmed widespread rainfall activity. The system affected northern, central, and western parts of the country. Citizens reported cooler winds and cloudy skies following the rain.
PMD Forecasts Rain, Snowfall, and Cold Conditions
The PMD has forecast more rain and snowfall over the next two days. Most districts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to be affected.
On Sunday, rain is likely in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Peshawar, Charsadda, and Nowshera. Islamabad is expected to remain cold and partly cloudy. Light rain and strong winds are also possible in the capital region.
In Punjab, rain and thunderstorms with gusty winds are forecast in Attock, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Noorpurthal, and Layyah. Murree and Galiyat are expected to receive rain and snowfall in mountainous areas.
Light rain or drizzle is predicted for Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Multan, Jhang, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Toba Tek Singh.
Regional Outlook Across Pakistan
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will experience cold and partly cloudy weather. Rain and snowfall are expected in mountainous districts including Chitral, Swat, Dir, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, and Battagram. Plains such as Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Kohat, and Dera Ismail Khan may also receive rain.
Sindh will largely remain cold and dry. Upper districts may see partly cloudy skies. Morning and nighttime fog is likely in Sukkur, Rohri, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Mohenjodaro.
Balochistan will experience cold and partly cloudy conditions. Rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall are expected in mountainous areas including Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Kalat, Mastung, Zhob, Qila Saifullah, and Qila Abdullah.
Rain and snowfall are also forecast for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Authorities have advised caution in hilly areas due to slippery roads and reduced visibility.
