The Sindh governmentโs Thar Desert Train Safari is set to depart on Saturday, with all logistical and operational arrangements completed by the provincial tourism department. The initiative aims to promote tourism across Sindh by offering travelers a unique rail-based journey through the scenic Thar Desert region.
According to official details, the safari train will begin its journey from Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Umerkot, before reaching Zero Point in Tharparkar.
During the trip, participants will be treated to a cultural programme, including a musical event in Chhor, along with an opportunity to sample traditional Thari cuisine prepared using local recipes.
On the second day, the train will depart from Pichi Ji Verry and travel back to Karachi, concluding the two-day tourism experience. The safari has been designed to combine travel, culture and adventure, giving passengers a chance to experience desert life in a comfortable and organized setting.
Sindh Tourism Minister Zulfiqar Ali Shah described the Thar Desert Train Safari as a special gift for the public, saying it reflects the provincial governmentโs commitment to promoting Sindhโs rich cultural heritage and diverse tourist destinations. He added that the project would be expanded in future phases, with planned extensions of the train route to Mohenjo-Daro and Sukkur.
According to the Sindh Tourism Development Corporation, ticket prices for the safari will start at Rs30,000 per adult. Railway authorities said passengers will also enjoy camping facilities, bonfires, local music performances and a variety of traditional dishes from the region.
The safari aligns with broader plans announced earlier by Pakistan Peoplesโ Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who in 2024 outlined proposals to enhance rail connectivity between Tharparkar and Karachi.
He said the proposed train services would improve access for residents, boost tourism and support the transportation of coal from Thar to Karachi, contributing to regional development and economic growth.
