The Sindh Safe City Authority has released its performance report covering October to December 2025. The report highlights how surveillance technology supported law enforcement across Karachi. It outlines arrests, alerts, and enforcement actions achieved during the three-month period.
Authorities emphasized that technology-driven policing continues to strengthen public safety in the city.
Facial Recognition Leads to Arrests
According to the report, facial recognition cameras played a key role in identifying suspects. Three individuals were apprehended using this system during the review period.
In total, the facial recognition network generated 13 alerts. After verification, authorities released 10 individuals. However, three suspects were taken into custody following confirmation.
Officials noted that careful verification helps prevent wrongful detention while maintaining effective enforcement.
ANPR System Helps Recover Vehicles
The Automatic Number Plate Recognition system also showed significant results. The system helped seize 26 vehicles during the quarter. As a result, one legal case was registered.
Overall, ANPR cameras issued 707 alerts. After screening, 138 individuals were released following verification. Authorities stressed that the system assists in tracking suspicious or illegal vehicles efficiently.
Action Taken Against Weapon Display
The report also addressed incidents involving public display of weapons. Two cases were registered under relevant laws during the reporting period.
Seven alerts were generated related to weapon display. Five individuals were cleared after verification. Meanwhile, two people were arrested and formally charged.
Officials said these actions discourage unsafe behavior in public spaces.
Technology Strengthens Public Safety
The performance report highlights how integrated surveillance tools improve response times and decision-making. Facial recognition and ANPR systems help police act with precision and accountability.
Authorities believe these tools reduce crime while supporting transparent policing practices.
Crackdown on Illegal Number Plates Announced
Separately, Karachi police announced a citywide operation against fancy and illegal number plates. The crackdown aims to stop motorists from evading traffic rules.
The operation will begin on December 19, 2025. Vehicles with fake, concealed, or altered registration numbers will be targeted. Officials stated that the initiative supports safer roads and improved enforcement.
