Punjabโs province-wide transport disruption has officially come to an end after successful talks between the Punjab Transport Minister, Bilal Akbar, and Chairman of the Transporters United Action Committee, Ismatullah Niazi. The breakthrough agreement has brought immediate relief to both commercial operations and daily commuters who were heavily affected by the strike.
Government Halts New Traffic Ordinance for Commercial Transport
In a joint press conference, Minister Bilal Akbar confirmed that the implementation of the new Traffic Ordinance 2025 has been temporarily suspended for all commercial transport vehicles. However, the ordinance will remain applicable to private vehicles until further notice.
To address concerns raised by transporters regarding the ordinance, the government has formed a special committee. This committee will hold consultations with all relevant stakeholders and present clear recommendations on how the new rules should be implemented for commercial transport. Officials emphasized that this step aims to ensure transparency, fairness, and practical regulation across the sector.
Transportersโ Demands Accepted, No Immediate Fines for Vehicles
Ismatullah Niazi announced that the government has accepted all major demands put forward by transporters, prompting the decision to end the protest. He clarified that commercial vehicles will not face immediate fines under the suspended rules. The new committee will now determine appropriate fine rates after reviewing industry concerns.
Niazi further assured transport operators that vehicles with complete and valid documentation will neither be fined nor impounded. The government has also committed to halting the registration of any new legal cases against transporters, removing a key point of contention that sparked the strike.
Transport Services Resume as Normalcy Returns Across Punjab
With negotiations concluded, the Transporters United Action Committee has announced the resumption of all business activities. Transporters expressed renewed confidence in the provincial administration and confirmed that normal services would restart immediately. The decision is expected to quickly restore routine travel and commercial movement across Punjab, offering much-needed relief to the public.
