The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced comprehensive plans to build a state-of-the-art international cricket stadium in Islamabad, with an estimated cost of Rs. 12 billion, aiming to enhance the city’s sports facilities.
Stunning Location at Margalla Hills
The stadium will be built near Sector D-12 at the foot of the Margalla Hills. The central location offers natural scenic beauty and easy access for spectators. Officials expect the venue to become a prominent landmark in the capital.
World-Class Design Inspired by Leading Venues
Designers are drawing inspiration from top cricket stadiums, including Dubai International Stadium. The facility will feature a three-tier seating arrangement: the lower tier for general spectators, the middle tier for VIP and premium guests, and the upper tier providing shaded viewing areas.
The seating capacity is planned at 25,000, while the pitch diameter will span 148 meters. The layout is designed to ensure smooth crowd flow and clear sightlines for all fans.
Advanced Lighting and Roof Options
One of the standout features under consideration is the Ring of Fire LED lighting system. Mounted along the stadium roof, it provides uniform illumination and reduces shadows. MUSCO Sports Lighting, used in several international stadiums, serves as the benchmark for this design.
The CDA is evaluating several roofing options, including tensile fabric structures, steel and polycarbonate semi-transparent roofs, and retractable systems like those used at Wembley and Marvel Stadium. The final choice will balance climate suitability and long-term maintenance.
Enhancing the Match Day Experience
Officials emphasized that the stadium aims to provide an exceptional match day experience. Modern amenities, improved crowd management, and advanced infrastructure are central to the design. The project intends to attract major international cricket events, boosting Pakistan’s global sporting profile.
A Landmark Facility for Islamabad
CDA officials anticipate that the stadium will emerge as one of Islamabad’s premier architectural and sporting landmarks. With its modern design, cutting-edge technology, and picturesque setting, it is expected to attract both fans and international teams.
