The Ex-Servicemen Society has reaffirmed its confidence in the leadership of the Pakistan Army. The organisation, representing retired military officers, has formally endorsed Field Marshal Asim Munir as the Chief of Defence Forces. The announcement reflects the group’s unified stance during a period of political tension.
During a press briefing, Chief Coordinator Aziz Awan stressed that the Society fully trusted the current military leadership. He clarified that the remarks presented were both personal and organisational. He added that rising hostility from a specific political group had created serious concern within the organisation.
Concerns Raised Over Political Conduct
Aziz Awan criticised the behaviour of the political party mentioned, stating that its actions targeted state institutions. He urged the authorities to consider firm measures, including a possible ban. Moreover, he called for swift judgments in cases linked to the 9 May events. According to him, delays in these cases create confusion and weaken public trust.
He also demanded legal action against the founder of the PTI, stating that accountability was necessary for national stability. Additionally, he highlighted the spread of anti-institution narratives from abroad. He said these campaigns attempted to harm the credibility of state structures.
National Unity Emphasised by Senior Members
President of the Ex-Servicemen Society, General (Retired) Abdul Qayyum, delivered a strong message on unity. He stated that national harmony was essential for long-term stability. He added that the strength of the armed forces came from public support. According to him, the military had protected the nation across multiple fronts since 1947.
General Qayyum also discussed regional challenges. He pointed to India’s alleged hybrid warfare tactics and noted rising tensions in the region. He claimed that certain hostile groups had used Afghan territory against Pakistan. Additionally, he said several media platforms in India and Israel pushed an anti-Pakistan narrative.
Praise for Field Marshal Asim Munir’s Leadership
General Qayyum praised Field Marshal Asim Munir for his professionalism and competence. He noted that the military leader had reached the highest ranks through dedication and strong performance. He added that the country needed disciplined leadership during testing times.
He also condemned incidents involving disrespect toward martyrs. He said such behaviour was deeply painful for the entire nation. He urged the public to honour sacrifices made by service members.
Calls for Policy Review and Strengthened Institutional Support
General Qayyum also suggested a review of the NFC Award. He stated that economic stability required balanced financial policies. Furthermore, he highlighted Pakistan’s global military ranking. Although Pakistan ranked 12th, he noted that India’s defence budget remained significantly larger.
He stressed that despite financial differences, national resolve could not be underestimated. According to him, unity between citizens and institutions strengthens the country’s defence posture.
Speakers Urge Collective National Support
As the briefing concluded, the speakers underscored the importance of national unity, security and stability. They said these values must remain non-negotiable. They emphasised that every citizen must support state institutions in the fight against terrorism. Their message called for collective resolve during a period marked by internal and external challenges.
