Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman has been fined 10% of his match fee for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the Tri-Series final against Sri Lanka on November 29. The International Cricket Council confirmed the penalty in an official statement on Friday.
ICC Adds One Demerit Point to Fakhar’s Record
The ICC found Fakhar in violation of Article 2.8, which deals with showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match. The incident took place in the 19th over of Pakistan’s innings when the left-hander argued at length with the on-field umpires after being dismissed.
Match Referee Reon King from the Emirates ICC International Panel proposed the sanction after four match officials — on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Asif Yaqoob, third umpire Rashid Riaz, and fourth umpire Faisal Afridi — reported the offence.
Fakhar accepted the charge and the penalty, meaning no formal hearing was required. The ICC also added one demerit point to his record, his first in a 24-month period.
Level 1 offences can result in an official reprimand or fines of up to 50% of the match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
Pakistan Clinch Tri-Series Title With Dominant Win
Despite the incident, Pakistan delivered a strong performance to lift the Tri-Series trophy. Sri Lanka were bowled out for 114 in 19.1 overs at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Opener Kamil Mishara top-scored for Sri Lanka with 59 off 47 balls, hitting two fours and four sixes.
Pakistan’s bowlers dominated the innings. Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Nawaz took three wickets each, while Abrar Ahmed claimed two. Salman Mirza and Saim Ayub added one wicket apiece.
Pakistan chased down the target in 18.4 overs, finishing at 118/4. Skipper Babar Azam anchored the innings with an unbeaten 37 off 34 deliveries, supported by openers Saim Ayub (36) and Sahibzada Farhan (23).
