LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz today launched the electric bus service in Gujranwala. Gujranwala city is about 105 km away from Lahore, the capital city of Punjab.
The provincial authorities organized a special ceremony to launch electric buses in Gujranwala for the first time.
Earlier, the Punjab Transport Company launched 15 electric buses in Chakwal as part of the province’s clean transport plan. The electric service now connects several key locations across the district.
Officials say the rollout supports Punjab’s mission to modernise public transport with safer and greener options.
The new electric buses operate on three important routes in Chakwal. They run between the District Complex and Dhudial, Tehsil Chowk and Balkasar, and Tehsil Chowk and Mohal Mughlan. These routes cover busy areas and provide convenient access for daily commuters. Passengers can now travel more smoothly because the service reduces congestion and long travel times.
Comfortable and Eco-Friendly Travel Options
The buses offer several modern features that improve the travel experience. They include air conditioning, digital displays, and accessibility options for people with disabilities. The transport company aims to provide a noise-free and smog-free commute through this initiative. Officials believe the electric buses will create cleaner surroundings and support healthier lifestyles.
Province Pushes Toward Zero-Emission Transport
Punjab continues to strengthen its commitment to zero-emission public transport. The introduction of electric buses in Chakwal adds to the province’s plan to reduce air pollution. Authorities say the initiative will help improve mobility in both urban and rural areas. They also highlight that electric vehicles can cut fuel costs and reduce dependence on traditional diesel systems.
Effort Aligns With Broader Development Plans
The Chakwal rollout aligns with the provincial government’s wider strategy to expand electric transport services. Officials expect the new service to provide safer travel options for residents. They also expect the buses to promote environmental sustainability by lowering carbon emissions. Consequently, the government hopes more districts will adopt similar systems in the coming months.
Community Benefits from Modern Transport
Residents now have access to a reliable transport option that supports daily travel needs. The electric buses offer a cleaner alternative for thousands of commuters across Chakwal. Moreover, the initiative marks another step toward a modern and eco-friendly transport future for Punjab.
