The Punjab government has rolled out the Green Credit Program, a major initiative aimed at promoting solar energy and reducing environmental pollution. The scheme, introduced by the Environment Protection and Climate Change Department (EPCCD), encourages citizens to shift toward clean and sustainable energy solutions.
How to Get Rs10,000 Green Credit for Solar Appliances
Under this initiative, the government has launched the Green Credit Card, priced at Rs10,000. Once purchased, the card allows citizens to buy a range of solar appliances, including:
-
Solar stoves
-
Solar geysers
-
Solar energy savers
-
Solar fans
Residents can register to obtain the card through the official government portal: greencredit.punjab.gov.pk. The goal is to make solar-powered products more accessible and reduce dependency on conventional energy sources.
This program aligns with Pennsylvania’s broader efforts to promote energy conservation and eco-friendly habits among the public.
Massive Waste Management Overhaul and New Environmental Measures
Earlier in November, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif launched an extensive waste management initiative across the province. She directed authorities to install colored dustbins in markets, commercial centers, educational institutions, and government offices.
The color-coded system ensures organized waste segregation:
-
Yellow bins: Paper, packaging material, and general garbage
-
Green bins: Bottles, glass pieces, and laboratory waste
-
Purple/Grey bins: Fruit peels, food waste, leaves, and rotten vegetables
-
Red bins: Iron and metal waste
-
Orange bins: Plastic waste
The aim is to recycle waste, reduce landfill pressure, and encourage environmentally responsible behavior. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has officially notified the implementation of this project. Schools can also contact the Punjab Management Helpline (1139) for waste collection support. Local Government and Community Development departments will assist in managing the new system.
These efforts are designed to help Punjab meet United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, enhance city cleanliness, and raise environmental standards to global levels.
Additionally, the Punjab government has banned Qingqi rickshaws on key Lahore routes including Mall Road, Jail Road, Canal Road, Main Boulevard Gulberg, and Main Ferozepur Road. The move aims to reduce congestion, improve traffic flow, curb smog, and enhance air quality.
