Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Saturday took aim at India’s political and military leadership, ridiculing their absence from a prominent Oxford Union debate against Pakistan. His comments come after Pakistani students claimed a historic victory at the debate, highlighting India’s reluctance to appear on an international stage.
Asif Targets Indian Leaders
In a tweet, Asif remarked, “There couldn’t be a more credible platform than Oxford Union for a debate between arch rivals. Modi perhaps did not trust the Indian panel; he could have replaced them with Rajnath and Amit Shah. They could repeat their Operation Sindoor performance.”
The Defence Minister’s criticism echoed sentiments expressed by international scholar and defence analyst Ahmad Hassan Alarabi, who highlighted that India’s top political and military officials, including former army chiefs, have been avoiding international appearances following the embarrassment of Operation Sindoor. “India has become a global embarrassment,” Alarabi noted.
Pakistan Claims Historic Debate Win
The Oxford Union debate centered on the motion: “India’s Pakistan policy is a strategy to inflame public sentiment under the guise of security policy.” Pakistani students presented well-reasoned arguments, relying on logic, legal frameworks, and factual data to counter India’s claims.
At the conclusion of the debate, Pakistan’s team secured a commanding victory with 106 votes compared to India’s 50, achieving a two-thirds majority. The outcome has been celebrated widely by Pakistani students and supporters, while India has yet to respond to Asif’s remarks.
The debate not only showcased Pakistan’s preparedness on international platforms but also drew global attention to the issues surrounding India’s foreign and security policies toward Pakistan.
