The Adiala jail administration on Wednesday firmly rejected widespread rumours claiming that the PTI founder had been moved out of the prison facility. Officials stated that he remained inside the jail and was in good health, stressing that circulating reports suggesting otherwise were unfounded.
In an official statement, Rawalpindi prison authorities clarified that there was “no truth” to any claims regarding his transfer from Adiala jail and emphasised that he was “fully healthy and receiving complete medical attention” as required.
The administration further dismissed speculation about his health as “baseless”, reiterating that all necessary measures were being taken to ensure his well-being. The PTI founder has been incarcerated since August 2023 and faces several cases, including charges related to corruption and terrorism, following his removal from office through a no-confidence vote in April 2022.
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif commented separately on the matter, stating that the PTI founder was receiving what he described as a comfortable environment in prison. He claimed that the food being provided to him was of such quality that “it is not available even in a five-star hotel”.
Asif further asserted that the incarcerated former prime minister had access to a television with the ability to watch any channel he preferred, along with exercise equipment.
The minister contrasted these conditions with his own past experiences during imprisonment. He recounted sleeping on cold floors, eating standard jail food, and facing harsh winter conditions with only limited bedding and no hot water. According to Asif, even the geyser from his cell had been removed on the orders of the then superintendent.
He also claimed that the PTI founder had been provided a double bed and “a velvet mattress”, suggesting that he could even listen to his own speeches from jail if he wished. Concluding his remarks, the minister urged, “Fear God — no one owns time.”
