KARACHI: Karachi police have imposed millions of rupees fine on motorists for traffic violations under the e-challan system. According to the Karachi Traffic Police report, motorists in the city were fined more than Rs 710 million over the past month under the cityโs e-challan system.
Seatbelt Violations Dominate
The report said over 93,000 e-challans were issued citywide during the last month. The majority of violations involved failure to wear seatbelts, with more than 57,500 drivers fined. Penalties for seatbelt violations alone amounted to Rs575.41 million.
Motorcyclists and Helmet Offences
Motorcyclists accounted for a significant share of fines.
22,257 riders were caught riding without helmets, resulting in Rs111.135 million in penalties.
Speeding and Other Traffic Offences
Speeding by dumpers, trailers, and water tankers was tracked through installed monitoring systems, generating 1,188 fines. Additionally, 2,699 regular drivers were penalised for speeding. Signal violations led to 3,102 fines, while 1,278 e-challans were issued for fancy number plates and 1,178 for tinted windows, totaling Rs29.45 million.
Other Notable Violations
The report also recorded 611 stop-line breaches and 426 cases of driving in the wrong lane.
Traffic Police Call for Compliance
Karachi Traffic Police urged motorists to follow traffic rules strictly. Officials stressed that adherence to traffic regulations protects not only drivers but also other road users.
