ISLAMABAD: The Punjab government has reduced the fare of the electric buses operating in Rawalpindi. The new fare is set at Rs 20 with immediate effect, down from Rs 25.
The Punjab government announced this development today. This move aims to give relief to the metro passengers in Rawalpindi.
Earlier, the Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz launched the electric bus service in Rawalpindi a few days ago. ย It was the launching of the second phase of electric buses in Rawalpindi, stressing that real progress is achieved through sustained hard work rather than shortcuts.
Maryam said the electric bus service began in smaller cities to ensure equal treatment for all residents. She highlighted the busesโ environmental benefits and low fare ofย Rs20, adding thatย women and persons with disabilities can travel free of charge.
145 Electric Buses for Rawalpindi
The number of electric buses in Rawalpindi Division will rise fromย 45 to 145, she said, whileย Jhelum, Chakwal, and Attock will each receive 15 buses, expanding modern and eco-friendly transport across the region.
The chief minister also announced plans forย cancer hospitals in Rawalpindi and Dera Ghazi Khan, and aย Rs100 billion drainage and sewerage systemย for rural Punjab. She said a government-run cancer hospital will begin treating patients in January, noting that 20 patients have already recovered through a Cobalt Ablation machine.
Maryam revealed that a newย anti-harassment lawย is being drafted, warning that mistreatment of women will not be tolerated. She also announced new ordinances to settleย land disputes within 30 days, and reported aย 70% reduction in crime, crediting the Citizen Complaint Desk (CCD).
She concluded by asserting that the PML-N has consistently delivered development, remarking, โWork is done through effort, not witchcraft. Some have spent years in politics without achieving anything.โ
