ISLAMABAD: Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza paid a farewell visit to the Naval Headquarters on Thursday. General Sahir met the Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, during his farewell visit. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, is set to retire in the next few days.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, the farewell meeting highlighted the strong professional relationship between the armed services.
During the interaction, General Mirza appreciated the Pakistan Navy’s operational readiness. He said the Navy had consistently shown determination and professional excellence in safeguarding Pakistan’s maritime frontiers. He also acknowledged the Navy’s vital role in ensuring regional stability through active participation in joint and multinational operations.
Moreover, the Naval Chief praised General Mirza for his leadership and commitment to strengthening inter-services cooperation. Admiral Ashraf stated that the Chairman played a significant role in promoting coordination among the Army, Navy, and Air Force. He added that the Chairman greatly enhanced harmony within the military’s strategic decision-making structure.
Guard of Honour Presented at Headquarters
Earlier, officials welcomed the outgoing Chairman at the Naval Headquarters with a formal guard of honour. A smartly turned-out naval contingent presented the ceremonial salute. Senior naval officers attended the ceremony and expressed appreciation for General Mirza’s service.
Additionally, the visit marked an important moment in the military’s transition process. General Mirza’s farewell engagements reflected the end of a notable tenure at the country’s highest joint military office. He held key responsibilities overseeing the strategic coordination of the armed forces.
Significance of the Final Tenure
It is noteworthy that General Sahir Shamshad Mirza serves as Pakistan’s last Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee under the previous constitutional framework. His departure signals a shift in the country’s defence leadership structure following recent legislative changes. Defence analysts noted that his term coincided with major developments in regional security dynamics.
Furthermore, according to officials, General Sahir’s contributions strengthened joint operational planning. He supported technological and strategic modernisation across the services, ISPR added.
