The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has confirmed that steps are underway to remove the incumbent Balochistan Chief Minister, Sarfraz Bugti, amid concerns over governance and the worsening situation in the province. PPP Parliamentary Secretary Liaquat Lehri stated that the party is seeking to appoint a new leader capable of addressing Balochistanโs long-standing issues effectively.
Lehri emphasized that the majority within the party supports a leadership change and that the next chief minister will also hail from the Pakistan Peoples Party. โThe majority of our members want the chief minister removed, and they want someone else from the party to take over and bring the provinceโs situation under control,โ he said.
According to Lehri, the decision regarding the new chief minister will ultimately be made by the party leadership. He added that whichever candidate the leadership nominates will receive full support from party members. โOur priority is Balochistan and its people. The chief minister conveyed certain things to the leadership, but the ground realities are entirely different. We have presented the actual situation before the leadership, and whatever decision the leadership makes, we will fully support it,โ Lehri remarked.
Meanwhile, senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and Senator Mir Dostain Khan Domki claimed that a decision to remove Sarfraz Bugti had already been made due to poor governance in the province.
Speaking to SAMAA News, Domki said that the PPP has initiated consultations regarding the selection of the new chief minister and indicated that an in-house leadership change is expected.
The move comes amid growing concerns about administrative inefficiency and the socio-economic challenges facing Balochistan. Party officials maintain that the change in leadership is aimed at strengthening governance, improving development outcomes, and restoring public confidence in provincial administration.
With consultations ongoing, the PPP leadership is expected to announce the new chief minister shortly. The party has underscored that the decision will be guided by the priority of addressing the provinceโs pressing issues and ensuring effective governance while maintaining internal party consensus.
This step highlights the PPPโs focus on internal reforms and its efforts to stabilize governance in Balochistan ahead of future political challenges.
