The Punjab government has officially approved the establishment of Air Punjab (Private) Limited, marking a significant milestone toward launching the province’s first government-backed airline. The decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, where several key provincial initiatives were also discussed and endorsed.
According to officials, Air Punjab will operate under provincial management and aims to provide affordable and reliable air travel across Punjab and to other major cities in Pakistan. The initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to expand connectivity, boost tourism, and improve regional trade and mobility.
The proposed airline is expected to enhance intra-provincial travel, especially for business and public service needs, while also creating new employment opportunities within Punjab’s aviation sector.
Government officials said Air Punjab would adhere to national aviation standards and coordinate with the Civil Aviation Authority to ensure safety and service quality.
In the same meeting, the cabinet approved several other initiatives, including the recruitment of “School Teacher Interns” to address staff shortages in public schools and the Punjab Protection of Ownership of Immovable Property Ordinance 2025, aimed at safeguarding citizens’ property rights.
Additionally, the cabinet sanctioned the Chief Minister’s Hi-Tech Farm Mechanization Finance Program to modernize agriculture, endorsed the introduction of QR codes for retailers under the Prime Minister’s Cashless Strategy to promote digital transactions, and approved an MoU for the Lahore–Rawalpindi High-Speed Rail Project.
Officials said these decisions collectively represent the government’s focus on economic modernization, technological integration, and service delivery improvements. The launch of Air Punjab, in particular, reflects a new phase of provincial development, positioning Punjab as the first province in Pakistan to establish and operate its own airline.
