ISLAMABAD: The federal government formed a high-level team to investigate the suicide case of SP Adeel Akbar.
SP Akbar served as the zonal police head of the Industrial Area in Islamabad. He died from gunshot wounds to his head inside his vehicle on Thursday.
The incident occurred near a hotel at about 4:30 pm. Witnesses reported that he was returning to his office when the event unfolded. Authorities seized the weapon used during the incident for analysis.
Forensic experts reviewed ballistic evidence to verify the sequence of events.
Initial Findings Suggest Suicide
State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry spoke to reporters at PIMS. He confirmed that initial inquiries suggest SP Akbar shot himself inside the vehicle. He said a high-level committee had been established under the IGP Islamabad. The inquiry committee includes DIG Headquarters, DIG Islamabad, and DIG Security. Officials emphasized a fair and thorough investigation into the tragedy.
Police Officials Describe Incident as Tragic
Meanwhile, the IG Islamabad expressed deep sorrow over the officer’s death. He stated that Safe City footage showed no external attack. Everything appeared to happen inside the vehicle, according to surveillance findings.
Investigators are trying to unlock the officer’s mobile phone for evidence. Colleagues are being interviewed, especially due to his recent Balochistan transfer. Authorities are questioning the driver and staff present at the scene.

Preliminary reports suggest he took a firearm from his official gunman. He allegedly shot himself in the head and was rushed to PIMS.
Doctors pronounced him dead shortly after his arrival at the hospital. The motive behind the suspected suicide remains unclear at this stage. The incident shocked the police force because he was highly respected.
He belonged to the 46th Common of the Police Service of Pakistan. He topped his CSS batch and earned recognition for his performance. He is survived by his one-year-old daughter.
