The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has officially digitised all its key public services, marking a significant step towards Pakistan’s e-governance future. With the introduction of the Pak ID mobile application, citizens can now access and complete identity-related processes entirely online, eliminating the need for long queues and physical visits.
Through the Pak ID app, users can apply for identity cards, family registration certificates (FRCs), and other official documents directly from their smartphones. The process includes biometric verification, document uploads, and real-time tracking of applications, making it one of Pakistan’s most efficient public service tools.
Rapid Growth in Digital Applications
In just three months, over 1.2 million applications have been submitted via the Pak ID app, while more than 10 million citizens have downloaded it so far. The system now processes over 10,000 applications daily, reflecting a major public shift towards digital identity systems.
According to NADRA officials, the Pak ID app has contributed to a 45 percent increase in online submissions, showcasing growing public confidence in digital services. The transformation has significantly reduced waiting times and improved service accessibility for citizens across Pakistan.
Expanding Digital Services Across Karachi
To further enhance citizen convenience, NADRA has announced plans to increase registration counters in Karachi from 359 to 550 by the end of the current fiscal year. The expansion is part of NADRA’s larger mission to integrate modern digital tools into every aspect of public service delivery.
In addition to physical expansions, the authority is focusing on digital innovation. The upcoming “Proof of Life” feature will allow pensioners to verify their identity online through the Pak ID app. This feature especially benefits elderly citizens who face difficulties with fingerprint verification due to age or health issues.
Close family members, such as sons or daughters, will soon be able to assist senior users in completing this verification, ensuring inclusivity and convenience for all.
Modernising Data Systems and Citizen Records
NADRA has urged citizens to regularly update their personal records, including births, marriages, and deaths, at local union councils to ensure accuracy in the national database. Updated records form the foundation for effective digital governance and seamless service delivery.
The authority is also enhancing infrastructure with ATM-style Self-Service Kiosks that will allow citizens to renew ID cards and perform other registrations without visiting service centers. These kiosks will first be installed at Karachi mega centers before being rolled out to airports, railway stations, shopping malls, and public spaces nationwide.
A Milestone in Pakistan’s Digital Governance
The digitisation of NADRA services represents a landmark achievement in Pakistan’s digital transformation journey. By integrating mobile technology, automation, and secure verification, the authority is setting a new standard for efficient, citizen-friendly governance.
The Pak ID app stands as a symbol of Pakistan’s growing digital capacity, ensuring that essential public services are now just a few taps away. This move not only saves time but also fosters transparency and accessibility across the country.
