Security forces have successfully neutralized the terrorists responsible for the Orakzai attack that claimed the lives of Lieutenant Colonel Junaid Tariq, Major Tayyab Rahat and nine other soldiers, military sources confirmed on Thursday.
During an intensive clearance operation in the Jamal Maya area of Orakzai, security forces engaged a large formation of 30 foreign-backed terrorists linked to the Fitna-ul-Khawarij network. All members of the hostile formation were killed, sources said, dealing a decisive blow to the group that had launched the Oct 7-8 assault.
The operation followed timely intelligence and sustained tactical pressure by ground and supporting elements. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the mission disrupted the enemy’s command-and-control and logistics, preventing further attacks in the region. ISPR also stated that the action avenged the recent martyrdom of senior officers and restored a measure of security for local communities.
Lieutenant Colonel Junaid Tariq (39) of Rawalpindi and Major Tayyab Rahat (33) of Rawalpindi, who were leading from the front, were among the martyrs.
Their leadership, courage and sacrifice were praised in official statements. Nine other soldiers also made the ultimate sacrifice; their names and home districts have been recorded by military authorities and conveyed to next of kin.
Security officials reiterated the armed forces’ commitment to eliminating terrorism from every corner of the country. Clearance operations continue to ensure there are no remaining hostile elements in the area. Authorities said they remain vigilant against any externally supported terrorist networks and will pursue all leads.
The military extended condolences to the bereaved families and paid tribute to the fallen for their bravery. The operation underscores the sustained resolve and capability of Pakistan’s security forces to protect citizens and maintain stability in affected regions.
Further operational updates will be shared through official channels as investigations, debriefings and prosecutions proceed promptly.
