Trump’s Plan ‘Not Ours’, Says Dar in NA Session
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Friday dismissed US President Donald Trump’s 20-point Gaza peace plan, saying it was not aligned with the version proposed by Muslim nations. Speaking in the National Assembly, Dar clarified, “The plan made public by Trump is not ours. Changes were made to our draft.” The U.S. proposal, which includes a ceasefire, prisoner exchange, and Hamas disarmament, came after Trump met leaders from eight Muslim countries, including Pakistan.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif initially welcomed the plan, but Pakistan has since distanced itself. Dar explained that Shehbaz only responded broadly to a tweet and was unaware of the differences.
Global Forums Failed Gaza, Says Dar
DPM Dar criticised global institutions, calling Gaza the “graveyard of global consciousness.” He said the Muslim bloc engaged with the US because the UN and OIC failed to stop the war. A meeting in Qatar, attended by Trump’s team and Muslim nations, led to a revised draft. That draft was shared with Washington but was later altered in Trump’s final announcement.
Dar confirmed ongoing talks with Saudi Arabia, revealing the US accepted some suggestions but left room for more dialogue. A joint statement may follow.
Efforts for Ex-Senator’s Release Underway
Dar confirmed Pakistan is working with a European country to secure the release of ex-Senator Mushtaq Ahmed, detained in Israel during a Gaza aid mission. No progress has been made yet.
He also addressed a controversy over journalist Shama Junejo’s presence at the UNGA, clarifying she was not part of the official delegation but was listed in the PM’s broader entourage.
Lastly, he highlighted growing interest in Pakistan’s Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement with Saudi Arabia, calling it a potential “Eastern NATO.”
