Authorities Enforce Section 144 to Protect Environment and Implement Master Plan
Murree’s district administration has enforced a strict three-month ban on all types of construction activities across the hill station. The measure, introduced under Section 144, aims to protect the fragile environment and ensure the successful execution of the Murree Master Plan.
According to official notification, the restriction will remain in place for 90 days. It applies to the construction of houses, shops, markets, plazas, factories, roads, and alleys. Authorities have warned that violations will lead to criminal cases and possible arrests.
Ban Extends to Mining and Material Transport
In addition to construction activities, the ban also covers mining, stone crushing, mountain cutting, and all types of drilling. Transport and supply of construction materials such as sand, gravel, bricks, steel, and related machinery have also been prohibited. This comprehensive approach aims to reduce environmental degradation and discourage unchecked urban expansion.
Officials clarified that the ban is immediate and will remain until either three months pass or the Murree Master Plan is fully implemented.
Protecting Murree’s Fragile Ecosystem
Sources highlight that the decision was made to promote eco-friendly practices, safeguard forests, and maintain a peaceful environment for residents and tourists. Murree has long struggled with deforestation, haphazard construction, and rising pollution levels due to unregulated development.
By temporarily halting such activities, the administration aims to prevent further environmental damage while ensuring sustainable urban planning. Authorities also believe that this step will help preserve Murree’s natural beauty, which draws thousands of visitors each year.
Strict Enforcement and Penalties
Law enforcement agencies have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the ban. Any attempt to bypass the restrictions, such as transporting materials or continuing construction secretly, will lead to immediate action. Violators may face criminal charges in line with Section 144.
The administration has also issued warnings to builders, contractors, and property owners to suspend projects until the restrictions are lifted.
Moving Towards Eco-Friendly Development
This ban is seen as part of a broader strategy to shift Murree towards sustainable development. The Murree Master Plan, currently under implementation, focuses on balancing urban growth with environmental preservation. Officials believe that strict measures today will help prevent long-term crises such as landslides, loss of greenery, and water shortages.
For residents and businesses, the temporary ban may cause inconvenience. However, officials stress that such short-term measures are essential to safeguard the area’s long-term future as both a tourist hub and a residential district.
