ISLAMABAD: Influencers Iqra Kanwal and Nadeem Naniwala have been booked in cases involving the promotion of fraud-oriented Apps. The National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has filed cases against three popular social media influencers in Pakistan. The accused include Iqra Kanwal, Nadeem Mubarak alias Naniwala, and Muhammad Hasnain Shah.
Officials claim the influencers promoted unregistered online trading applications promising high profits. Authorities allege these apps are fraudulent, placing thousands of people at risk of financial loss.
Multiple Cases Registered
Sources confirmed that three separate cases were registered against Nadeem Mubarak and Muhammad Hasnain Shah. A separate case was also filed against Iqra Kanwal.
Investigators said they summoned the accused three times to record statements. However, none provided satisfactory responses during questioning.
Arrest Teams Formed
The cybercrime agency has now formed special arrest teams to take the suspects into custody. According to officials, the influencers knowingly encouraged Pakistanis to invest in fake profit-making platforms.
Authorities believe their promotions misled large audiences and contributed to the spread of fraudulent financial schemes.
Previous Action Against Other Influencers
A day earlier, the NCCIA booked influencers Rajab Butt, Anas Ali, and Hurairah for similar allegations. They were accused of promoting gambling applications and misleading followers with promises of guaranteed profits.
Officials confirmed these cases were filed in Lahore under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), fraud, and related sections.
Warning Ignored by Influencers
Before launching criminal proceedings, the cybercrime agency issued formal warnings to the influencers. Despite these notices, the accused continued advertising illegal apps on their platforms.
Officials stressed that the accused acted as brand ambassadors for fraudulent betting platforms. They allegedly profited while ordinary people suffered significant financial losses.
The NCCIA stated that strict legal action will continue against anyone found promoting unregistered trading or gambling platforms in Pakistan.
