PTI’s Falak Javed Khan arrested
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist Falak Javed Khan has been arrested in Islamabad for defaming the government and state institutions through social media. Falak is the sister of Sanam Javed Khan, who is already in jail.
According to sources, Falak was detained on Tuesday night in Sector F-10. Officials claim that Falak Javed had been running an online campaign, spreading inflammatory and derogatory content targeting key institutions.
Charges under PECA
Cases have been registered against her under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA). Authorities allege that her activities violated cybercrime laws and harmed the reputation of the state.
Notably, Falak Javed is the sister of PTI activist Sanam Javed. Reports suggest she had been in hiding for the past 16 months before her arrest.
PTI reaction: PTI’s Falak Javed Khan arrested
The PTI strongly condemned her arrest in a statement shared on its official account on X (formerly Twitter). The party declared the action โillegalโ and demanded her immediate release.
Petition filed in Islamabad High Court
Her father, Javed Iqbal, has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court seeking her release. In his plea, he requested the court to order her presentation and provide full details of the cases registered against her.
Previous cases against Falak Javed
It is important to note that Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari had previously filed a petition against Falak Javed in the Lahore High Court.
The minister alleged that Falak Javed uploaded fake indecent videos of her on social media and engaged in anti-state activities. She requested that Falakโs name be placed on the Exit Control List (ECL) and that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) investigate the matter and submit a report.
Ongoing controversy
Falak Javedโs arrest has once again highlighted the ongoing political tensions between PTI and the government. While officials accuse her of spreading harmful propaganda, PTI has framed the incident as a violation of fundamental rights and freedom of expression.
