PHC Grants Transit Bail to Imaan Mazari and Husband
The Peshawar High Court (PHC) granted transit bail to Imaan Mazari and her husband, Advocate Hadi Ali Chhatta. The court directed both petitioners to appear before the relevant trial court by October 9.
Court Proceedings
Chief Justice SM Atiq Shah presided over the hearing and engaged briefly with the petitioners. Additional Attorney General and Imaan Mazari appeared before the bench. Noting her presence, the chief justice remarked, “You have come to Peshawar for the first time.”
Mazari replied with a smile, confirming it was her first appearance at the Peshawar High Court. The chief justice observed that lawyers rarely come to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa unless compelled, adding, “Even on the pretext of an FIR, at least you have come to Peshawar.”
Bail Decision
After hearing the arguments, the court granted both petitioners transit bail until October 9. The bench instructed them to ensure their appearance before the relevant trial court.
Background of the Case: PHC Grants Transit Bail to Imaan Mazari and Husband
A day earlier, an Islamabad court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chhatta in a controversial tweet case involving state and national security institutions.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka heard the case in Islamabad. The court directed that both suspects be arrested and produced before it on September 24.
Lawyers representing Mazari and Chhatta filed petitions seeking cancellation of the warrants. However, the judge dismissed the pleas and upheld the earlier order.
