Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued a firm message to Afghanistan, urging its leadership to โchoose between Pakistan and the Khawarij,โ as concerns grow over Afghan nationalsโ involvement in cross-border terrorism inside Pakistan.
During his visit to Bannu, PM Shehbaz was accompanied by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir to attend a high-level counterterrorism briefing. The two leaders also offered funeral prayers for 12 Pakistan Army soldiers who embraced martyrdom during an operation against India-backed Fitna al-Khawarij terrorists in South Waziristan.
Afghan Nationals Involved in Terrorism
According to security assessments, masterminds and facilitators of recent terrorist incidents in Pakistan are operating from Afghan soil with backing from India. PM Shehbaz emphasized that Afghan nationals crossing illegally into Pakistan and engaging in terror activities present a direct threat to national security. He stressed that the urgent repatriation of undocumented Afghans remains a priority to curb this growing challenge.
Clear Warning Against Terror Proxies
The prime minister reiterated that Pakistanโs response to terrorism would be uncompromising, leaving no ambiguity in its stance. He warned that anyone facilitating or sympathizing with Khawarij or Indiaโs terror proxies is directly advancing the enemiesโ agenda. Such individuals, he stated, โwill be dealt with in the language they deserve.โ
Rejecting attempts at political exploitation of the issue, PM Shehbaz made it clear that the Pakistani nation fully rejects divisive narratives on terrorism. He highlighted that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in particular, remain steadfast and united like a โfortified wallโ alongside the state and armed forces.
Strengthening Counterterrorism Measures
During the counterterrorism briefing, Corps Commander Peshawar provided detailed insights into the regional security situation. PM Shehbaz assured that all necessary administrative and legal measures would be swiftly implemented to further reinforce Pakistanโs counterterrorism strategy.
Following the briefing, PM Shehbaz and Field Marshal Asim Munir visited the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Bannu to inquire about the health of injured personnel. Their visit underscored the stateโs recognition of the sacrifices made by its armed forces in combating terrorism.
A Strong Message to Afghanistan
PM Shehbazโs statement reflects Islamabadโs growing frustration with cross-border terrorism originating from Afghan soil. Pakistan expects Afghanistan to honor its commitments and prevent the use of its territory for terrorist activities against its neighbor. By drawing a clear line, the prime minister has reinforced Pakistanโs determination to protect its sovereignty and eradicate the menace of terrorism.
