Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned toxic propaganda against Pakistan’s armed forces, calling it an intolerable act. He stressed that those using social media to ridicule national institutions would be identified and held accountable.
During a federal cabinet meeting, the premier noted that certain elements are spreading false and harmful narratives online. He warned that those promoting terrorism, sedition, or mocking the nation’s defenders must face strict consequences. Sharif stated that such “Khawarij” elements must be eliminated to ensure the safety and unity of the country.
Tribute to Major Adnan Aslam
The prime minister paid tribute to Major Adnan Aslam, who embraced martyrdom while performing his duty. Sharif said he attended the funeral and met the family of the martyr. He praised Major Adnan’s father for showing remarkable courage. According to the prime minister, the nation stands proud of its martyrs who lay down their lives for Pakistan.
Strengthening Relations with China and the United States
Shehbaz Sharif also highlighted his recent visit to China. He described the trip as a success and mentioned that the business conference held during the visit was highly productive. He emphasized that China has emerged as both an economic and military power.
Pakistan, he noted, seeks to maintain balanced ties with China and the United States. The prime minister said fresh investment is expected under Memorandums of Understanding signed with Washington. This, he added, will boost trade, technology, and business opportunities for Pakistan.
Climate and Agricultural Emergency Announced
Addressing the devastating impact of recent floods, Shehbaz Sharif declared a national climate and agricultural emergency. He explained that the federal government is preparing a comprehensive review of damages, including crop losses, within one week. The provinces will also be expected to contribute actively to relief and recovery efforts.
He stressed that delays in development projects would no longer be tolerated. According to him, swift action is needed to overcome the challenges caused by extreme weather events.
Massive Flood Losses Reported
The prime minister described the destruction caused by recent flooding as unprecedented. He said floodwaters have now entered Sindh, causing more devastation. Climate change, he stressed, is a long-term threat that cannot be resolved overnight.
Official figures reveal that at least 1,000 people have lost their lives due to the disaster. Meanwhile, the complete assessment of crop damage will be finalized after the review process is complete.
Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that Pakistan must stand united in the face of these challenges. He urged institutions, provinces, and citizens to work together to rebuild the country.
