Pakistani banking users are being targeted by a new online fraud involving a fake Habib Bank Limited (HBL) mobile application promoted through Facebook advertisements. The fraudulent app is being falsely advertised as the “2025 updated version” of HBL’s official banking application, aiming to steal sensitive banking card information from unsuspecting users.

The phishing attempt mimics HBL’s official branding, including images of debit and credit cards, to create the impression of authenticity.
Despite Facebook removing the fake advertisement, the malicious signup link associated with the scam remains active and continues to pose a threat to users. The URL of the phishing website is entirely different from HBL’s official domain, which is clearly listed as “https://www.hbl.com/.”
Once users access the fake website, they are prompted to provide confidential card information, including card number, CVV (security code), expiry date, cardholder name, and mobile number.

After submitting these details, victims are misled with a message claiming that the bank will contact them within one to two hours for OTP verification. This tactic is designed to give the scam an appearance of legitimacy while facilitating unauthorized access to banking accounts.
Users are strongly advised to avoid downloading apps via links from social media advertisements or unverified websites. Only official sources should be trusted, including HBL’s verified app on the Google Play Store and HBL’s official website.
Suspicious advertisements or websites should be reported to both HBL and relevant authorities, such as the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
It is important to note that HBL has not released any “2025 version” of its mobile app. Users should remain vigilant, avoid sharing sensitive banking information on unofficial platforms, and verify all communications through HBL’s official channels.
Adhering to these precautions can help prevent falling victim to this scam and protect personal and financial information from fraudulent activities.
