Decision Aimed at Ensuring Public Safety Amid Heavy Rainfall in Karachi and Other Areas
KARACHI – The Sindh government has declared a public holiday tomorrow (Tuesday) across the province in light of the ongoing monsoon rains and the forecast of further heavy downpours. The decision was officially announced by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, who stated that the move is intended to protect citizens from unnecessary hardship and potential dangers posed by the severe weather.
The announcement comes as Karachi and several other cities in Sindh continue to experience torrential rains, which have already caused urban flooding, power outages, and serious disruption to daily life. Roads in many parts of the city remain waterlogged, and the risk of electrocution and infrastructure damage has significantly increased.
In a statement issued on Monday evening, the Chief Minister said:
“There is a strong possibility of more rain in Karachi and other parts of Sindh. The purpose of the public holiday is to prevent difficulties for the people. Their safety is our top priority.”
The holiday applies to all public and private offices, schools, colleges, and other institutions, excluding departments involved in essential services such as emergency response, municipal operations, hospitals, and law enforcement.
Citizens Urged to Stay Indoors and Avoid Unnecessary Travel
Authorities have advised the public to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and remain cautious around electric poles, open drains, and flooded areas. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted more heavy rainfall over the next 24 to 48 hours, warning of possible flash floods in urban centers.
Emergency teams, including rescue services and municipal workers, have been placed on high alert to manage any emergencies that may arise due to the weather conditions. The Sindh government’s rain emergency helpline will remain operational around the clock to assist residents.
