A deadly road accident in Karachiโs Federal B Area early Sunday morning claimed the lives of two young siblings and triggered violent public outrage. According to police accounts, a dumper truck collided with a motorcycle carrying a father and his two children, 22-year-old Mahnoor and 14-year-old Ahmed Raza.
The accident occurred on Rashid Minhas Road between Saturday night and Sunday morning. All three sustained serious injuries, but the siblings died while being rushed to the hospital. The father, identified as Shakir, suffered severe head injuries and was admitted to Jinnah Hospital in critical condition.
Outrage Turns to Violence
Following the accident, residents in the area gathered at the scene and attacked the dumper truck driver before police took him into custody in an injured state. In a dramatic escalation, the enraged crowd set fire to at least seven dumper trucks parked nearby.
Police later confirmed that the driver of the vehicle involved was arrested at the scene, while 10 suspects linked to the torching of the trucks were also taken into custody. Officials added that further arrests will be made using evidence from CCTV footage.
Traffic Disruption and Road Blockades
The burning of multiple trucks caused a complete suspension of traffic on Rashid Minhas Road. Traffic police diverted vehicles from Sohrab Goth flyover towards Sharea Pakistan Water Pump to ease congestion.
Meanwhile, the All Pakistan Dumpers Association staged a protest sit-in on the Superhighway in response to the destruction of their vehicles. Both sides of the main highway were blocked, forcing traffic diversions from Punjab Adda to Sohrab Goth police station and from Adil Shah bus stop to Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
The associationโs president, Liaquat Mehsud, demanded the immediate arrest of all individuals responsible for the attacks, claiming that nine vehicles had been damaged.
Familyโs Heartbreaking Appeal for Justice
Speaking to reporters, Zakir, the brother of the injured father, revealed that the family had been returning home from the Malir area when the fatal accident occurred. He said his injured brother was still unaware that his two children had died.
Zakir added that Mahnoor, the elder sister, was due to be married next month, making the tragedy even more devastating. He appealed to authorities to take strict measures to prevent such accidents and ensure justice for the victims.
Governorโs Response and Call for Action
Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori expressed deep grief over the loss of life and prayed for the injured fatherโs recovery. He urged the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands, stressing that justice must be served through proper legal channels.
The governor also instructed the provincial government to take strict action against reckless dumper drivers and to impose effective controls on what he described as the โdumper mafiaโ endangering public safety.
