“They Won’t Let My Son Rest,” Says Grieving Mother Charan Kaur
DABWALI, HARYANA — A fresh surge of grief and anger has swept across fans and supporters of the late Punjabi music icon Sidhu Moosewala, after unidentified assailants opened fire on his statue in Sawant Kheda village, Sirsa district.
The statue, erected in 2023 by JJP leader Digvijay Chautala, was partially damaged in the attack, which took place under the cover of night. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang later claimed responsibility, issuing threats to those who continue to honour Moosewala’s legacy.
On July 29, Chautala received a chilling video message from a foreign number, showing the attack on the statue and a warning that read:
“After Sidhu Moosewala, it’s the turn of his sympathizers.”
A case has been lodged at Dabwali police station, and investigations are ongoing, with authorities yet to apprehend any suspects.
Mother Breaks Silence: “This is an Attack on His Soul”
In an emotional Instagram post, Moosewala’s mother, Charan Kaur, condemned the act and expressed her heartbreak in Punjabi, writing:
“My son’s enemies are not letting him rest even after his death. This is an attack on his memory and a wound to my soul.”
Calling her son a “movement” who stood for people’s rights, she stressed that no bullets could silence his legacy.
“Our silence is not our weakness. A day will come when these criminals will meet justice,” she added.
Gang Warns Political Supporters, Questions Moosewala’s Legacy
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang, via alleged members Goldie Dhillon and Arzu Bishnoi, justified the attack by accusing political leaders like Digvijay Chautala and Gagan Khokhari of falsely glorifying Moosewala. They argued that statues should be reserved for freedom fighters, not artists.
Sidhu Moosewala’s Legacy Still Resonates
Born Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, Moosewala was a globally recognized Punjabi rapper and lyricist known for his bold, politically-charged lyrics. He joined the Congress Party in 2021, just months before his assassination on May 29, 2022, in Mansa, Punjab — a murder linked to gang violence that shook fans across India and the diaspora.
