ATTOCK: A dramatic rescue unfolded near Marri Kunjour in Attock, where Rescue 1122 saved a 45-year-old shepherd from drowning in the Haro River after a sudden flash flood.
Visibly shaken but unharmed, the man expressed deep gratitude, saying, “Allah Almighty granted me a new life.”
The shepherd, who had been tending to his livestock, was swept away by a powerful current triggered by the flash flood. Rescue 1122 teams responded swiftly after receiving the alert, deploying a highly trained unit that descended hundreds of feet into the riverbed to pull out the man alive.
Officials credited the successful operation to the proactive monsoon strategy ordered by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. As part of her flood preparedness plan, she had instructed all commissioners, deputy commissioners, and rescue agencies to stay on high alert throughout the season.
CM Maryam Nawaz monitored the operation virtually and later praised the Attock administration and Rescue 1122 for their professionalism and bravery. The incident serves as a testament to the effectiveness of her disaster response measures.
The rescue not only underscores the dedication of emergency personnel but also reflects the importance of strategic planning in mitigating monsoon-related risks. With seasonal rains intensifying across Punjab, such preparedness is proving essential in safeguarding lives.
