The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday approved the bail application of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) activist Sanam Javed in a case involving allegations of posting anti-state material on social media.
Justice Farooq Haider presided over the hearing and granted bail, ordering her release upon the submission of surety bonds worth Rs500,000.
Sanam Javed had been arrested earlier this month by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) over accusations of sharing content considered harmful to the interests of the state. The FIA Lahore registered the case under sections of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act and the Pakistan Penal Code.
Representing Javed, Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq argued that the allegations lacked merit, stating that his client had neither posted nor disseminated any material that could be classified as anti-state. He further claimed the case was politically motivated and rooted in her affiliation with the PTI.
The FIA opposed the bail, asserting that the material in question qualified as anti-state propaganda and required further investigation.
After reviewing the arguments presented by both sides, the court ruled in favor of granting bail, instructing that Sanam Javed be released upon furnishing the required surety bonds.
Sanam Javed, a prominent supporter of the PTI, has encountered multiple legal issues in recent months amid continued legal action against party members following the events of May 9 last year.
