ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) held a hearing on Monday regarding the health and repatriation of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.
During the session, the government informed the court that it had decided not to participate in or assist with the legal proceedings currently underway in a U.S. court related to Dr Siddiqui.
Additional Attorney General apprised the court of this decision. However, Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan raised serious concerns, questioning the legitimacy of the move. He emphasized that neither the government nor the Attorney General has the authority to make such determinations without offering a clear and legal justification.
“This is a constitutional court. No one can merely state that a decision has been made without presenting the reasoning behind it,” Justice Khan remarked.
The court has now directed the government to submit a detailed explanation justifying its decision to refrain from involvement in the U.S. case. The matter will be taken up again at the next hearing, scheduled for July 4.
