Muharram
DERA ISMAIL KHAN: In a robust and comprehensive effort to ensure peace and security during the sacred month of Muharram, the police in Dera Ismail Khan have deployed over 90,000 officers and personnel.
The district, considered one of the most sensitive in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during this period, is receiving heightened security attention to prevent any untoward incidents during religious processions and gatherings.
District Police Officer (DPO) Sahibzada Sajjad Ahmad is personally supervising the security arrangements. The district has been strategically divided into four security zones, each overseen by a Superintendent of Police (SP). This zonal division aims to facilitate a swift and coordinated response in the event of any emergency.
To bolster surveillance and monitoring, CCTV cameras have been installed at critical locations including procession routes, Imam Bargahs, and key city entry and exit points. In addition to the police force, personnel from the Frontier Constabulary (FC) have been deployed to provide additional support and maintain a secure environment across the district.
Routine security checks are being carried out at all city access points, while intelligence-based operations are underway in particularly sensitive areas. These preemptive measures are designed to detect and neutralize any potential threats before they can disrupt public peace.
Community cooperation is being actively fostered as religious scholars from different sects, business community leaders, and members of civil society have commended the police for their proactive planning. They have pledged full support in upholding peace, harmony, and religious unity during Muharram.
In a formal statement, DPO Sajjad Ahmad expressed confidence in the readiness and dedication of the police force. He confirmed that comprehensive arrangements have been made for the food and accommodation of police personnel brought in from other districts to support the local force.
Senior officers will continuously monitor the security situation throughout the month, ensuring that any emerging issues are addressed on the spot. The DPO also issued clear instructions to all police personnel to remain alert and dutiful during Muharram.
He stressed the importance of close coordination with religious scholars and community leaders to prevent any misunderstandings or provocations.
By promoting dialogue and swift response mechanisms, the police aim to ensure that the month of Muharram is observed with the dignity, peace, and unity that it deserves in Dera Ismail Khan.
