Eid ul Adha Date
The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has officially scheduled a meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee (CRHC) on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 (corresponding to the 29th of Ziqad, 1446 AH), to sight the crescent of Zulhajj. The outcome of this meeting will be pivotal in determining the date for Eid ul Adha celebrations across Pakistan.
According to a formal notification issued by the ministry, the meeting will be held at the Ministryโs headquarters, located in the Kohsar Block of the Pak Secretariat in Islamabad. The session will be chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, who serves as the Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
The committee, which includes representatives from all four provinces, along with officials from the Pakistan Meteorological Department, SUPARCO, and Ministry of Science and Technology, will collectively assess crescent sighting reports from across the country.
The notification reads: โThe meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee (CRHC) for sighting the Moon of Zulhajj 1446 AH will be held, In-Shaa-Allah, in the evening of Tuesday, May 27, 2025, corresponding to the 29th of Ziqaad 1446 AH, at Islamabad in the office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony.โ
According to ministry officials, if the Zulhajj moon is sighted on the evening of May 27, Eid ul Adha will be celebrated nationwide on Friday, June 6, 2025. However, if the crescent remains unseen, the month of Ziqad will be completed with 30 days, and Eid will then fall on Saturday, June 7, 2025.
Astronomers and meteorological experts have indicated that the likelihood of moon sighting on May 27 is relatively low due to celestial conditions, predicting that the moon is more likely to be visible on May 28 instead. This projection increases the chances that Eid ul Adha will be celebrated on June 7.
Nevertheless, the final and official announcement will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee based on credible moon sighting testimonies and data reviewed during the meeting.
Eid ul Adha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” is one of the most significant religious events in the Islamic calendar, commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allahโs command.
The date of Eid is determined by the lunar Islamic calendar, making moon sighting essential to finalizing religious observances in Pakistan.
