Mama Gang
KARACHI: In a significant operation, the Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan police arrested the main accused of the notorious ‘Mama Gang’ along with his accomplice in an alleged police encounter in North Nazimabad, Karachi.
The primary suspect, Zahid Hazrat, alias Mama, was apprehended in an injured condition, while his accomplice, Muhammad Arshad Aminullah, was also taken into custody. Zahid, the gang’s ringleader, was immediately transferred to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medical treatment following his injuries sustained during the encounter.
In a separate operation the same weekend, the Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan police arrested three other members of the ‘Mama Gang’ following an alleged police shootout in Shadman Town.
The arrested individuals include 40-year-old Tahir Khan Firdous, 24-year-old Nadir Ali Qadir Bakhsh, and another suspect who identified himself as Waseem Ghulam Sarwar. Two of the suspects, including Nadir and Tahir, were injured during the encounter and were also transported to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical care.
The suspects, who are part of a five-member gang, have been involved in various criminal activities, primarily in the form of robberies targeting milk shops, bakeries, and street crimes. The gang utilized a Toyota Corolla to carry out their heists, with accomplices on motorcycles providing backup during the criminal activities.
Upon their arrest, the suspects confessed to a series of crimes in various Karachi localities, including Sharifabad, Liaquatabad, Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan, Taimuria, and New Karachi.
They also admitted to opening fire when faced with resistance during robberies in Samanabad. One of the arrested suspects, Nadir, revealed that he had used a police uniform during some of their criminal operations.
Authorities recovered significant evidence during the operation, including three 9mm pistols, two 30-bore pistols, 21 stolen mobile phones, a stolen motorcycle, and a stolen Corolla car.
Additionally, CCTV footage of the gang’s various criminal activities was obtained, further corroborating their involvement in numerous robberies and street crimes. The arrests of these key gang members mark a major step in dismantling the ‘Mama Gang’ and addressing the rising wave of street crimes in the city.
