ISLAMABAD: Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court, seeking the release of the party’s founder, Imran Khan, from Adiala Jail.
Sardar Latif Khosa has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court on behalf of the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, for Imran Khan’s immediate release.
The petitioner urged the court to order the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan on parole in all pending cases.
The petition argues that the escalating national security situation demands urgent and extraordinary measures. Gandapur cited recent unprovoked drone attacks by the Modi-led Indian government as a serious threat to Imran Khan’s life, especially while he remains incarcerated.
Highlighting the fraught history between Khan and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gandapur stated that during Khan’s tenure as PM, bilateral relations deteriorated as Khan consistently opposed Modi’s policies. He claimed that Khan embarrassed Modi repeatedly on both domestic and international stages, particularly over issues critical to Pakistan.
“Imran Khan is viewed by Modi as a formidable adversary—someone capable of rallying the nation and reshaping Pakistan’s future. Given this, there is a legitimate fear that even Adiala Jail could be targeted to eliminate him and sow chaos,” Gandapur stated in the petition.
The chief minister emphasized that Khan’s release on parole is essential for national unity and for mobilizing his large support base both within Pakistan and overseas. He asserted that Khan’s leadership is crucial in presenting Pakistan’s case against Indian aggression on the global stage.
Gandapur assured the court that Imran Khan would strictly adhere to parole conditions, including government supervision, regular reporting, and full compliance with the law.
The petition also noted that a prior application seeking parole had been submitted to the Punjab Home Department, but no response had been received. Gandapur further argued that Khan’s continued detention, despite his good conduct in custody, poses risks to his health and undermines constitutional protections against arbitrary detention.
He concluded by asserting that parole is a legal and constitutional mechanism that should be used to safeguard fundamental rights in extraordinary circumstances.
PTI leaders believe that the release of Imran Khan on bail is essential at this critical juncture to unite the nation amid Indian aggression against Pakistan.
Meanwhile, some circles believe that any drone attack on Adiala Jail can be fatal for the PTI founder and the people alike.
Therefore, the PTI lawyer filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court.
The official YouTube channel of the PTI has also confirmed this development on Friday.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Adel al-Jubeir, is scheduled to arrive in Pakistan on Friday (May 9). His visit comes at a critical time, as regional tensions between Pakistan and India continue to escalate.
Al-Jubeir is currently in India, and his upcoming stop in Islamabad is seen as part of Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic engagement in the region.
Moreover, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned recent Indian drone and missile strikes on Pakistani territory. In a phone call with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday, PM Shehbaz stated that the attacks resulted in the deaths of 31 civilians and left 57 others injured.
“India has violated Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the Prime Minister asserted, adding that such actions threaten peace and stability across South Asia.
During the call, both leaders agreed to maintain close communication amid the growing crisis. Secretary Rubio reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to promoting regional peace and urged both Pakistan and India to work toward de-escalation.
